光分解的特点是生物基材料主链断裂。E/CO的光分解速度和程度与链中所含酮基的量有关。含量越高，分解速度越快，程度越大。美国科学家对E/CO进行了户外暴露试验。在阳光充足的6月份，E/CO最早可以分解几天。

乙烯基/乙烯基酮类共聚物(Ecolyte)

Ecolyte分子侧链上的酮基可以在自然光的作用下分解。Ecolyte的光分解性能优于E/CO，但成本也很高。这类聚合物的缺点是一旦见光就开始降解，几乎没有诱导期，需要添加抗氧化剂来调节诱导期。
